The daughter of Edward and Jane Kienstra Baird, she was born December 26, 1930, in Grand Rapids. Betty had worked in wholesale jewelry sales and at the Alvah N. Belding Library. She loved her grandchildren, was a longtime member of Hopkins Church of Christ and enjoyed golfing and dancing. On June 25, 1966, in Belding, she married Raymond E. Trudgen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Trudgen, on August 18, 1996; her parents; two brothers, Richard and Johnny; two sisters, Vivian and Dorothy; and son, Theodore W. “Ted” Soules, on September 2, 1983. She is survived by son, Michael Soules of Belding; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and David Vandenburg of Greenville; special daughter-in-law, Susan Soules and Skeeter of Greenville; sister, Penny and Norm Mast of Holland; brother, Theodore “Ted” Baird of Greenville; six grandchildren, Chris, Brian, Matt, Jake, Nicki and P.J.; two great-grandchildren, Syd and Ivy; dear lifelong friend, Barbara Catt of Grand Haven; siblings-in-law, Gloria and Jim Cossart, Joyce and Ray Newman, George and Ann Trudgen, Gordon and Evie Trudgen, Norman and Georgia Trudgen; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. LaVern Lussenden officiating. Burial will follow in West Montcalm Cemetery. Envelopes for memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society are available at the funeral home where the family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
