Velma E. Trumpower, aged 93, formerly of Lake Odessa, our beloved mother, 
grandmother and great-grandmother, whom the little ones affectionately 
called “Franny,” passed away peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning, 
Feb. 3, 2008 at the Sparrow Hospice House in Lansing.  Velma was born in 
Edmore, Mich. on July 12, 1914 to Charles and Maude (Foster) Brooks.

She had worked as a bookkeeper at the Co-Op Elevator in Lake Odessa, and as a 
United Brethren church secretary.  Velma also sold Avon products for many 
years.  She was rumored to be one of the best cooks in her area and loved to 
feed a crowd.  Velma loved music and loved to dance.  In her much later years, 
she played chime tones and tried the hand bells.  Velma loved her family 
reunions because her extended family was her life.  The family extends a 
special thanks to the staff at both Ingham Medical Facility and Sparrow 
Hospice House for taking such excellent care of Velma in her last days.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Freeman Trumpower; two sisters; 
two brothers; two stepsisters and two stepbrothers.  Velma is survived by a 
half-brother, Howard Brooks of California; children, Peter (Gloria) Trumpower, 
and Ann (David) McClelland; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa t 
2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, with a time of visitation beginning one 
hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.  In lieu of 
flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to 
Sparrow Hospice House (1210 W. Saginaw, Lansing, MI 48915).
