She had been a resident at Clark Retirement Home in Grand Rapids, Mich., and the family is very grateful for the wonderful care that she received there. Mary Helen was born on July 25, 1935 in Ionia, Mich., to Andrew and Mary (Gorse) Trusock. She graduated as Valedictorian from St. Peter and Paul High School in Ionia in 1953. She graduated from Marygrove College, Monroe Campus and later received her Masters from Wayne State University. As Sister Mary Helen (Sister Andrew Marie), she was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters and taught at Catholic schools including St. Peter and Paul School in Ionia where she also served as principal 1968-1972. Later she taught and served as a Reading Consultant in the Ionia Public Schools for 24 years until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the National Education Association and the Michigan Education Association. She touched the lives of so many children and she cared about them all. After retirement, she worked for a time at Forward Metal in Grand Rapids. Mary Helen was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Grand Rapids and served as a Communion Minister at Heartland Healthcare Center. She also volunteered at Metro Health Hospital and served on the board of her condo association. She enjoyed swimming and water aerobics. Her many friends, colleagues, and caregivers will remember Mary Helen for her sweet disposition and radiant smile. Mary Helen was deeply devoted to her family and they loved her dearly. She was a wonderful daughter, sister and aunt. She often visited her family members around the country and enjoyed entertaining them in Michigan. Mary Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and their spouses, Sr. Millie Trusock, Anne (Francis) Hengesbach, George (Joan) Trusock, Dr. Dorothy Trusock, sister-in-law Eleanor Trusock, and niece Dale Trusock Vino. She is survived by her brother James Trusock, her nephews Alan (Kathy) Hengesbach, James (Lucrecia) Trusock II, Dr. Bruce (Karen) Trusock, Hon. Mark (Dee) Trusock, Thomas (Jenni) Trusock, her nieces Joyce Hengesbach, Carol (Otteau Christiansen) Gallagher, Marcia (John) Larson, Lyn (Dan) Lepore, Kathleen Van Wagner, many great-nephews and great-nieces, and special friend Ward Schenck. Per Mary Helen's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2750 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids. Family will receive friends at the Church for one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be Saturday afternoon at the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Ionia.
