Tubbs was born in Lyme, New London county, Connecticut, Dec. 25, 1794. Died at Ionia, Mich., Jan. 2, 1883, being 88 years and a few days old. Studied the profession of medicine with Drs. Lutz? of Lyme and North of New London, later taking a course in the medical department of Yale college, graduating from the college in 1820. In 1822 removed to Auburn, New York. In 1823 settled in Tyre, Seneca county, New York, and in that year was married to Lucy D. Smith, daughter of King Smith of Lyme, Conn. Practiced the profession of medicine in Lyme from 1825 to January, 1875, when he removed to Ionia, Michigan, making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Amasa Sessions, until the time of his death. During the time of his residence in Seneca county, 52 years, he filled the office of justice of the peace for 42 years. Was supervisor of the township altogether 15 years. Justice of the Sessions two terms. Commissioner of loans for Seneca county three terms. Was superintendent of and inspector of schools for a number of terms. Member of assembly from Seneca county during the years of 1835 and ’36. He filled these official positions in connection with a continuous medical practice; made the business years of his life a busy as well as useful one to his associated, few of whom survive to remember his years of labor and usefulness.
