June 30, 1906, in his home at Lake Odessa, he laid down his long suffering body peacefully, and willingly passed to the richer, fuller life just over the way. At the age of 21 he was united in marriage to Augusta A. Ring. To them one son was born, Earl E., at which time the mother passed away. In later years he was married to Fannie E. Vickery, who has been his constant companion and loving nurse through the past two years of suffering which he bore patiently, and when the mortal eyes closed, he had the splendid satisfaction of harboring in his soul neither harsh feeling, malice or ill-will for any person, saying, “If I have wronged any man I ask his forgiveness – Where any may have wronged me, I lay it all down and remember in bitterness no more. It is all right, I am ready. I want to go.” His life and character – just Manly – and this is true: “I watched a sail until it dropped from sight Over the rounding sea, a gleam of white, A last ?? farewell, and like a thought Slipped out of mind, it vanished and was not. Yet to the helmsman standing at the wheel, Broad seas still stretched beneath the gliding keel. Disaster Charge! He felt no slightest sign, Nor dreamed of the far horizon line. So may it be, perchance when down the tide Our dear ones vanish, peacefully they glide On level seas, nor mark the unknown bound. We call it death, to them “’tis life beyond.” The simplicity of the service, the sermon and the music so beautifully and appropriately rendered by the Rev. Mr. Aunks of Leonidas an old time friend, was just as Mr. Tucker had planned it, sympathy, modesty and sincerity being natural characteristics of the man. The deceased was a business man of Clarksville and Leonidas for more than twenty years. He then was obliged to give up active work and went to Minnesota for his health. After three years in the west he returned to Michigan locating in Grand Rapids and from there to Lake Odessa, where he has been a constant sufferer from stricture of the esophagus. Everything has been done that could be done for his relief but nothing could give permanent relief. The burial took place in Boston township near his early home. Those from away in attendance at the funeral were a brother H.G. Tucker and daughter Bernice of Leonidas also J. F. Frisbie and J. Leister, representing Tent 470 of Leonidas, Mrs. E. S. Babcock of Boston a sister, Mrs. M. J. Leak and daughter Lena of Minneapolis, the former a sister of Mrs. Tucker. For unfailing kindness during this long, sad and severe illness, for assistance when the change came, from neighbors and friends for the many beautiful flowers, (including those from the Tent and Hive of Leonidas Maccabees where he was a charter meter) and for the kindly assistance of Miss Helen Downs the bereaved family express here their appreciation and heartfelt gratitude.
