Tuinhoff, 92, of Belding, formerly of Greenville, died Friday morning, Oct. 31, 2008, at Spectrum Health United Hospital in Greenville. She was born April 1, 1916, in Belding, the daughter of William and Annis Streator Wortman. Verlin graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1935. In earlier years she worked at Gibson’s in Greenville where, during World War II, she made parachute flares. In later years she took college classes at Grand Valley State College. She collected local historical biographies and collected several books on the history of the Plains Indian Tribes. Verlin loved to travel, having visited the Eastern Seaboard, most all the southern states and Hawaii. She was married on May 9, 1943, in Belding to Russell Tuinhoff and he preceded her in death in 2000. She is also preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Wilton. Verlin is survived by her children, William and Barbara Tuinhoff, Kathy Tuinhoff all of Belding; her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. In keeping with her wishes no visitation or services will take place. Private interment will be in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alvah N. Belding Memorial Library or the Flat River Community Library in Greenville.
