He moved to Michigan in 1875, and settled in Maple Grove, Barry county. From there they moved to Ionia county, locating in Odessa township before the village of Lake Odessa was formed. He had one son Ira who conducted a barber shop several years in Lake Odessa. Mr. Thurman enlisted in the service of his country in the time of the Civil war and joined the 21st Pennsylvania cavalry, and served for five years. Mrs. Thurman passed away seven years ago, he then made his home in Miwaukee, Wis., with a daughter now deceased. He leaves his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ira E. Thurman, of Howell, Mich. The funeral was held at Central Methodist church Wednesday afternoon. The pastor preached and William Chipchase accompanied by Mrs. Thomas Johnson sang. Burial was at Lakeside.
