Belding Banner-News, 2 Mar 1961

Mrs. Nell G. Tuttle, 84, long time resident and social leader, passed away at
the Belding City hospital Wednesday morning.  She had been hospitalized for
three weeks with a leg injury.

Born in Elk Rapids, May 11, 1876, she had lived in Belding for 69 years.  She
also made her home in Grand Rapids and Crystal at one time.  Mrs. Tuttle was a
life member of Doric chapter No. 75, O.E.S., and an honorary and charter member
of the Belding Business and Professional Women’s club.  She belonged to the
First Church of Christ Scientists in Belding, and organized the Gootch Family
locally.

She was a graduate of Belding high school and valedictorian of her 1895 class.

She was first married to Louis J. Steele, who died in 1931.  After his death she
married Ira Brown who died in 1949.  Her present husband, Burton Tuttle,
survives her.

At one time, Mrs. Tuttle operated a real estate office, insurance agency and
telegraph office in Belding as well as acting as the local correspondent for the
Grand Rapids Press.  Her parents were William and Eunice Barker.

Mrs. Tuttle is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Spencer (Vivian) Smith and
Mrs. Charles (Ethelyn) Childs of Belding, and three grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for the Huffman Funeral home, Saturday at 2 p.m.
 The Reverend H. S. Ellis, John H. Stahlin, reader in the local Scientist
church, and Doric chapter, O.E.S. will officiate.  Burial will be in the River
Ridge cemetery.
