End Came on Surgeon's Table at Grand Rapids News of the death of Miss Margaret Tuttle, at DeVore Hospital, Grand Rapids, came as a startling shock to Ionia friends Tuesday night, apprehension of the result of her operation having been very slight. Miss Tuttle went to Grand Rapids Friday night, to the home of her aunt, Mrs. Smith, expecting to to to the hospital for operation and to be fully recovered in time to begin the winter term of her school to begin the winter term of her school after the holidays. The operation was performed at 12:30 Tuesday noon, and she died on the operating table. Her mother, Mrs. Norman Tuttle, was with her at the time and Mr. Tuttle went down as soon as the news of her death was brought here. Miss Tuttle was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tuttle, who have lived in Orange township for ten or twelve years. She had four brothers--Norman, Victor and Donald, living at home, and Clyde of Wichita, Kansas. She was nineteen years old and graduated last June from both the High school and County Normal here, having been an apt and ambitions student. In September she took charge of the school at Cook's Corners, where she taught up to the time that school closed for Christmas. Miss Tuttle's death is traced back to a fall in which her back was injured several years ago. She had suffered ever since more or less, and the last summer evidences of abscess or similar growth were observed. The trouble seemed to have been cured but other symptoms showed and tuberculosis of the bone was feared. The operation was decided on, and Miss Tuttle went to the hospital with the utmost confidence that she would recover promptly and completely. The sad result was due to failure of heart action under the anesthetic. The body was brought here, on the noon train Thursday and the funeral was held at 8:00 o'clock at the Methodist church in this city, with burial in the Tuttle cemetery.
