Tyler, but when one in the freshness of youth, who is the center of a large circle of loving friends and just entering into the fruition of plans of previous years, is thus untimely cut off by death, that event seems to demand something more than a careless notice. Miss Tyler was born January 22, 1867 at the home of her father, Isaac E. Tyler, Esq., in Orange, this county, and early in life was imbued with those principles of industry and frugality which lie at the foundation of material prosperity. But while thus prepared for life’s duties, she aspired to the ?? of the mind which would qualify her for a higher and more influential position in society wherever her lot might be case. She became a graduate of our high school department in the class of ’85 and was subsequently employed as a teacher in the grammar department until failing health compelled her resignation. Gifted with a thoughtful mind, very early in life the great problem of the life beyond engrossed her thoughts, until her anxiety was satisfied by a humble trust in the Crucified One, who had for her rendered full satisfaction to the requirements of infinite justice. In February, 1884, she made a public profession of that trust and united with the Baptist church in this village of which her father has for so many years been its oldest deacon. Possessing a strong magnetism over the minds of her associates she employed her powers in impressing them with the same great truths so strongly verified in her own experience, and that interest and influence ceased only with her life. With a strong desire that others should become the happy recipients of the hope she entertained, with the tenacity of youth she lost sight of self and for some time after hopes of her recovery had been given up by her friends she believed in regaining her lost health. It was not until about a week before her death that the revelation came to her that the end was not far off. This conviction brought neither gloom or sadness, for the peace of the Comforter was with her and the light from the City of God made bright the pathway to the grave until at last mortality was swallowed up of life; even the life eternal. Her death occurred on July 12, 1887, and her remains were interred in our village cemetery. On Sunday, July 17th, at the session of the Baptist Sunday school the following resolutions of respect were unanimously adopted by a rising vote: Whereas, Our heavenly father has seen fit in His wise providence to take from us sister Mary Tyler, a member and former teacher of our School: Resolved, That while we humbly submit to the stroke as given to One who doest all things well, we feel that as a school we have sustained a severe loss in the death of our sister; Resolved, That it should be our earnest desire and purpose to emulate the consistent and useful Christian character she exhibited both in her labors for Christ and in her resignation in her final illness; Resolved, That the sympathy of the school is hereby extended to the afflicted family; Resolved, That the Secretary be instructed to present a copy of these resolutions to Brother Isaac Tyler and his family and have them published in the village papers.
