She was born October 21, 1918, in Battle Creek, the daughter of Bertie C. and Nora A. Rayle Edwards. Helen attended school in Alden, graduating in 1938. She married Edward Charles Tyler on June 1, 1940, in Alden. He preceded her in death in May 25, 2001. Helen was a member of Ashley Baptist Church, serving as a junior church leader and taught Sunday school for many years. She was one of the founding members of the Belding Flat River Trail Busters. She was a homemaker and loved working in her garden, sewing, camping, writing poetry and her favorite pastime, tracking the family genealogy. Helen enjoyed her family and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Bertie and Nora Edwards; her husband, Edward Tyler; a daughter, Nancy; great-granddaughter, Angelina; sister, Edith Copin and brother-in-law, John Copin. Helen is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Phyllis and Paul Smith, Judy and Larry Smith, all of Rockford, Joanne Turnipseed of Mancelona; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Brigham Funeral Chapel, Belding, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Burial will follow in Otisco Township Cemetery, Belding. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family requests that those wishing make a contribution to Helen’s name to Ionia Hospice.
