Elizabeth A. Tyler, 79, former Ionia County resident, died January 23 in 
Kalamazoo.  She was born March 19, 1924 the daughter of Lewis and Bess Gamber 
Jones, at the family farm home near Collins.  She attended Collins rural 
school and was graduated from Portland High School in 1941.  After attending 
business college in Lansing, she was employed at REO in Lansing.  During her 
working years, she also was employed by Durmetallic Inc., and Kalamazoo 
Manufacturing.  She retired from Kalsec in 1989.  She was a member of Ladies 
Auxiliary at VFW Post 827, Kalamazoo; of Ladies’ Library Association of 
Kalamazoo; and of First Presbyterian Church of Schoolcraft.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Margaret Ann, and by her 
parents.  Surviving are her sons, Michael (Chris) Tyler of Lakeland, Florida, 
David (Marcia) Tyler of Kalamazoo; brother, Robert L. (Diana) Jones of Ionia; 
niece, Jennifer Jones of Kalamazoo; nephew., Robert Jones of Grand Rapids; 
uncle, Donald W. (Mary) Gregory of Ionia; five grandchildren; nine great 
grandchildren; many cousins; and several special friends.

Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 
8, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Schoolcraft, with the Rev. Paula 
VanderHoven officiating.  A reception will follow in Westminster Hall.  Burial 
will be later at Portland Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Ladies’ 
Library Association or First Presbyterian Church of Schoolcraft.
