Tyler died at his home in Orange township last Sunday morning. For weeks his death had been expected and he survived longer than had been looked for by the physicians of his family (Dr. Allen of Portland, Dr. Dean Smith of Ann Arbor and Dr. Will Tyler of Niles), his sturdy constitution and abstemious habits counting in the end. “Deacon” Tyler, as he was know in Portland Orange, was a native of….(illegible) …born January 1815, so that he was 86 years of age. Mr. Tyler was present at the organization of Orange in 1843, and resided there continuously up to the time of his death and held many offices in it. He was also one of the constituent members of the Portland Baptist church, of which there is now but one remaining—Betsey A. Brown of Portland. Mr. Tyler was a deacon in the church for more than 55 years; and during all these years he has led the life he professed—honorable, upright and God-fearing. Mr. Tyler was thrice married, the third wife having died three years ago. He is survived by children of the first and last marriages as follows: Amelia Smith (wife of Dr. John Smith) of Jackson; Sarah Tyler, Portland; Louisa Page, Dexter, Mich.; Vina McCallum, Lincoln, Neb.; Addie Rossman, Belding, Otis Tyler, Portland; Dr. Will Tyler, Niles, Mich. Also by the following sisters: Betsey A. Brown, Portland, aged 83 years; Mrs. Hiram Briggs, Portland, 77; Laura Crawford, Owosso, 81. Services over his remains were conducted from the Baptist church by Rev. Stewart on Tuesday afternoon.
