Hastings Reminder – May 31, 2008

GRAND LEDGE- June I. Tyler Viera of Grand Ledge was born to Jesse and Ethel 
Gavit on May 4, 1926 (but please don’t tell her we told you). After a long 
illness, she passed away in her sleep on May 27, 2008.

She was preceded in death by both parents and husband and father of her 
children, Clarence “Tip” Tyler and brother-in-law, Gordon Tyler.

June is survived by her loving husband, Manuel Viera whom she married on April 
28, 1990; son, Jeff Tyler of Portland; daughter, Shelly (Jim) White of Grand 
Ledge; grandsons, Christopher Tyler and Tim (Rakael) Tyler; stepchildren, Bev 
Viera, Char McGloin, Patty Barlow and Richard (Annette) Viera, all of Rhode 
Island; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special sister-in-
law and friend, Dee Tyler; three sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy 
Tyler, Cheri Tyler, Merrill (Nancy) Tyler, and many  nieces and nephews, 
cousins and extra special friends, including Dinah Tyler and June’s “girls” 
from Lansing Community College.

June began her career with the Lansing Board of Education until the inception 
of Lansing Community College, at which she became the Director of Purchasing 
until her retirement 37 years later.

After family and friends, LCC was one of her passions. She loved traveling with 
her husband Manny, especially to Las Vegas and with her family. She traveled 
and experienced seeing all 50 states with her daughter Shelly.

Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, needlepoint and more, most of which she 
gave to family and friends. 

Funeral services were held Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Peters & Murray Funeral 
Home, Grand Ledge. Rev. Mary Schippers-DeMunter officiated. Interment at 
Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to The June Tyler 
Viera Scholarship Fund, at Lansing Community College Foundation, P.O. Box 
40010, Lansing, MI 48901.
