At the age of sixteen years he went with his parents to Whitley county, Indiana. When he was nineteen years of age he united with the Church of the Brethren and lived a consecrated life until his death, April 2, 1932, at the home of his sister Cartharine Suit, being 82 years, nine months, and 20 days of age. He was one of six children, three boys and three girls. Two sisters and two brothers preceded him to the better land. He leaves his sister, a nephew, and nieces to mourn their loss. In the death of Brother Umbaugh his sister has lost a devoted brother, the church a faithful and useful member and the community an upright and honored citizen. Funeral was at the Church of the Brethren April 4, conducted by Elders John Smith and Harley Townsend. Burial in Lakeside cemetery.
