He was born October 17, 1924 in Carlton Center the son of Fay and Dorothy (Aspinall) Underwood. He married Mezella Ingraham June 9, 1946. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, having received three Bronze Stars. He worked at General Tire for 32 years; drove truck for Valley Chemical Farm; and farmed all his life. Floyd is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mezella Underwood, of Ionia; children Wanda (Max) Minnis of Georgia, Connie (Clyde) Pritchard of Blanchard, Leo (Valorie) Underwood of Ionia. Teresa (Scott) Seilre of Muir; brother-in-law William (Evelyn) Hecht of Saranac, eleven grandchildren; eleven step- grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and thirty-nine step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, John Andrew Underwood, in 1985, one granddaughter, Shannon Marie Underwood, in 1994; two sisters, Greta Hecht in 1988, and Bonita Fisher in 1985. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Chaplain John Kirkman officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. You may make memorial contributions in Floyd’s name to family wishes.
