Former Sentinel-Standard Employe Dies at His Home

Walter H. (Bert) Underwood, 73, a lifelong resident of Ionia, died early
Wednesday morning at his home at 618 Benton court.  For many years he worked as
a printer and pressman, retiring in 1930.  He was employed 14 years at Ionia
Daily Sentinel-Standard and about the same length of time at Ionia County News.
 He was also employed at the Grand Rapids Press.

Mr. Underwood was born in Ionia, October 28, 1887, the son of Walter H. and
Alice Wilkins Underwood.  He spent his entire life in Ionia and had resided the
past 15 years at the present address.  He was married in Orleans July 18, 1914
to Mina Curtis, former Ionia city clerk, who died August 16, 1955.

Survivors include one son, Curtis Underwood of rural Lake Odessa; a sister, Mrs.
Albert Kench of Lansing, and one brother, Vern Underwood of Ogden, Utah.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Boynton funeral home with the
Rev. John W. Tennyson, pastor of First Baptist church, officiating.  Interment
will be in the family lot at Easton cemetery.
