She had been rather poorly for several weeks but not until about ten days ago did her ailment take on a serious turn. Her son John, of Chicago, was notified of her turn for the worse but did not reach here until after she had passed away. Maria Dumon was born July 11, 1832, in the township of Otisco, Ionia county, Michigan. She graduated from the Big Rapids high school and became a successful teacher which vocation she followed for eight years. On March 20, 1872 she was united in marriage to Solomon Unger and they located in Alton, Kent County, where they resided for a period of two years after which they moved to Belding where she ever since resided. Two children were born to this union, Frank who passed away on December 30, 1900 and John Unger of Chicago who still survives her. Two brothers and one grandson also survive her. At the tender age of 12 years she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Baptist church. She was one of the charter members of the Belding Baptist church, uniting by letter from the Smyrna Baptist church. Truly a good and useful Christian has entered into her rest.
