He was born in Wexford County, Michigan on September 27, 1892 and had lived in the Belding area since 1908. Mr. Updike served in W.W. I with overseas duty and was also a member of Belding Lodge No. 355 F & AM. He was in the landscaping business. He was married in Belding on June 28, 1924 to Ida Updike who survives. Survivors also include three daughters, Miss Patricia Updike, at home, Mrs. Aaron (Marilyn) Johnson, Belding and Mrs. Norman (Gretchen) Finkbeiner, Belding; two sons, Roger, at home, and William, Route three, Belding; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Poe and Mrs. R.L. Tinkham, both of Long Lake and one brother Harold of Route three, Belding. Fourteen grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were Monday, August 8, at Huffman Funeral Home, Belding, with Rev. Ralph Dean and Belding Lodge No. 351 F & AM officiating. Interment was in Otisco Cemetery, Otisco Township. Pallbearers were Paul Nichols, Hubert Reeves, Everett Eady, Lawrence Hodge, Robert Reeves and John Wilson.
