Bill was born June 19, 1931, in Belding. He attended Cooks Corner Elementary School and Belding High School. There he met the love of his life, Betty Jane Michalek, in ninth grade and they were married on April 15, 1950, in Belding. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and metal casting in his own foundry. He was skilled at fixing anything mechanical and worked and supervised at Greenville Tool & Die for 41 years. One of the biggest loves of his life was antique cars. His 1922 Ford Model T was one of his prized possessions and many trips were taken in it as he belonged to the Flat River Antique Automobile Club. Bill also enjoyed square dancing. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane; six children, Daniel Updike (Cathy) of Greenville, Rosalie Lee of Greenville, Mary McCartney (Allen) of Mason, Kristina Muller (Mosey) of Watermill, N.Y., Angela Gillmer (Greg) of Greenville, Amy Butler (Christopher) of Eugene, Ore.; 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Ida Updike, and siblings, Patricia, Marilyn, Roger and Gretchen. Funeral services will be noon Wednesday at the Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Interment will follow in Otisco Township Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
