Gladys I. Updyke, 91, 200 E. First St., Stanton, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998,
at the Laurels of Fulton Nursing Center, Perrinton.  She was born on Dec. 14,
1906, in Ionia County, the daughter of Charles and Clarissa McCreary Davis.  She
had been a resident of Stanton since 1991, but was formerly a longtime resident
of the Sheridan area.  She attended Sidney Christian Church.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Hobart Williams of
Sheridan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Ada Wiseman of Pompeii,
Dewey and Vida Wiseman of Bozeman, Mont., Norval and Billie Jean Wiseman of
Ocean Springs, Miss.; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and seven
great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her first husband,
Morris Wiseman, in 1948; her second husband, Emerson Updyke in 1975; a son, Roy
Wiseman; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services are Monday at 11 a.m. at the Stebbins & Simpson Funeral Home,
Sheridan, with the Rev. Bernard Loew of Sidney Christian Church officiating. 
Interment will be in the Ithaca Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to
Sidney Christian Church.
