She was born July 27, 1886, in Lyons township, the daughter of Daniel and Alice Faxon Johnson. She attended the Crane school, and graduated from Lyons high school, valedictorian in 1902 and 1903. In 1902, she graduated from the 11th grade with that honor, then the school added a 12th grade. She graduated again; with the same honor. She attended Albion college as a music major, and taught music for 14 years in the public schools. She was married to Victor Upton January 21, 1921, in Ionia. He died in May 1945. Mrs. Upton was a life member of the Lyons Order of the Eastern Star, and a former member of the Lyons Methodist church, the Lyons Research club, and Lyons Ladies Literary guild. She was also a member of the Ionia Business and Professional Womens Club. Mrs. Upton is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lois Johnson of Ionia, and Mrs. Alice Weaver of Tucson, Arizona; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Hull Memorial chapel in Muir, with Rev. Roger Gifford officiating. Burial in Lyons cemetery. A memorial for the Masonic home has been established.
