The Ionia County News, Thursday, August 14, 1958
Richard Newton Upton, 77, died Thursday, August 7, while staying at the home 
of a son, James W. Upton, in Grand Rapids.  He was a retired employee of Motor 
Wheel, Lansing.  Mr. Upton resided in Portland and another son, Robert N. 
Upton, lived with him.  He had been ill several months.

Besides the sons, the survivors are two brothers, John Upton, Richardson, 
Indiana, and Dave Upton, Muncie, Indian, and a sister, Mrs. Louisa Nelson, 
also of Muncie.

Funeral services were held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Neller funeral home, 
Portland.  Burial was in Portland cemetery.
