Urie, aged 84 years, occurred Monday morning, following an illness of several years. Funeral services were held from the residence, Wednesday, under the auspices of the American Legion. Burial was made in Portland cemetery. Mr. Urie was born in Scarber, England, in 1839, and came to America with his parents when a small boy, settling in Ohio. In 1863 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Crowell, who a number of years later passed away. In 1890 he was married to Mrs. Harriet Hudson, who with four children from his first marriage survive. They are Frank and Dell of Portland, Mrs. Presley Franks of this place and Mrs. Bert Sowles of Belding. Mr. Urie was a veteran of the Civil war, having enlisted in Co. F., 65th Ohio infantry, in 1864. Shortly after the war he came to Michigan, residing in this vicinity until his death. The following relatives and friends from out of town attended the funeral: George Hudson, of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. W. J. Jeffry, of Six Lakes; Mrs. Harmon Smith, of Shiloh; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Sowles, of Belding; Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hudson, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hudson, Mrs. Cyril McAdams, Mrs. Ray Ballard, Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Urie, Forest Urie and Grover Franks, of Lansing.
