March 4, 1897 John Utes, aged 67 years, died Monday morning at 6:45 o'clock, of asthma, at his home on East Lincoln avenue. Deceased leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss. He has been a respected resident of Ionia for 13 years and came here from Germany. The funeral was held Wednesday at 2 p. m., from the Lutheran church, North Jefferson street, Rev. Succop conducted the services. interment in Highland Park cemetery. Ionia Sentinel-Thurs. March 11, 1897 The funeral services for the late John Utes were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Lutheran church, Rev. H. Succop officiating. The church was crowded with sympathizing friends. The bearers were Henry Woodrick, Wm. Woodrick, Chas. Gierman and Ludwig Speckin. There was a profusion of flowers, and the words of Rev. Succop were impressive and feelingly spoken. Deceased was 67 years old and was confined to this home only a few days. He leaves a widow and three children, all grown, two sons, John and Charles, and one daughter. the remains were laid to rest in Highland Park cemetery.
