The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, May 12, 1953


Charles F. Utess, 88, died Sunday morning, May 10, at a Lakeland, Fla. Hospital 
after being ill for two days. 

He was born June 3, 1864, in Stettin, Germany, and moved to Michigan 60 years 
ago.  He was employed by the Pere Marquette railroad for 40 years, part of that 
time as superintendent of the P.M. car shops in Ionia.  He retired in 1939.  
For the past two years he has lived in Lakeland.

Surviving are a son, Louis, of Ionia; a grandson, Charles Utess, of Greenville; 
and two great-grandchildren.

The body will arrive in Ionia over the weekend and will repose at the Myers 
funeral home awaiting funeral arrangements.  Interment will be in Highland Park 
cemetery.
