Wednesday morning following an illness of the past week. She had been in poor health for several years but was taken seriously ill about a week ago. She was born in May 1860 at Fowler, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Brooks. She lived there until her marriage December 12, 1887 to Charles Utess and they began housekeeping in Ionia where they have resided for nearly 50 years. For many years Mr. Utess was shop superintendent of the Pere Marquette car shops in Ionia. She was a member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran church and also a member of the Lady Macabees. She is survived by the husband; one son, Louis Utess, Lincoln Avenue; one sister, Mrs. Frances Mullaney of Grand Rapids, and one grandson. Funeral services will be held from the home Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. R. A. Rook, pastor of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran church, officiating.
