Oct. 5, 1967 Clayton B. Valentine, 75 of Carlton Center, passed away last Thursday, at Pennock Hospital, Hastings. He had been hospitalized ten days following a stroke. A native of Westville, Montcalm County, he was the son of Wilbert and Martha (Lepard) Valentine and came to the Woodland area with his parents when a small child. He and his wife Marie, after their marriage April 25, 1915, farmed in the Woodland area until 1923, then moved to Carlton Center. He was employed by the Hastings Mfg. Company until his retirement in 1959. Surviving are his wife; three daughters; Mrs. C.L. (Margrete) Flynn and Mrs. Larry (Shirley) DeLong of Kalamazoo and Mrs. William (Mayoma) Dawson of Lowell; a son Burl of Washington, D.C.; 13 grandchildren and a brother Nelson (Ora) Valentine of Grand Rapids. Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 at the Leonard-Osgood Funeral Home at Hastings with burial in Lakeside cemetery, Lake Odessa. Rev. Thomas Churn of Woodland officiated.
