ROY): THE GRAND RAPIDS PRESS, MI, 8-18-1988: "VALENTINE - Mrs. Sarah Ruth Lake, aged 91, of Ionia, passed away Wednesday morning at the Cascade Care Center in Grand Rapids. She is survived by a large extended family among whom are one daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Celestine/Sally) Abbott of Grand Rapids; a son-in-law, Delbert Callen of Lowell. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 Saturday, August 20, 1988, at the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia, with Pastor David Woodall of the Open Bible Church in Grand Rapids, officiating. Visiting hours are Thursday 7 to 8:30 pm and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 pm. Interment Orleans Cemetery. COOK FUNERAL HOME, IONIA." SENTINEL-STANDARD, Ionia, MI, August 18, 1988: "Area obituaries - SARAH RUTH LAKE VALENTINE - GRAND RAPIDS - Sarah Ruth Lake Valentine, 91, formerly of Ionia, died Wednesday at the Cascade Care Center in Grand Rapids. She was born Aug. 5, 1897 in Fremont Township (Isabella Co, MI), the daughter of Irving and Florence (Uebele) Main. She attended Milbrook Schools. She married Milton James Lake on June 14, 1916 in Mt. Pleasant. They moved to a farm in Ionia County in 1921. He preceded her in death (1-10-1944). (Her 2nd husband, Roy Valentine, died) July 4, 1973. In her later years she spent much of her time caring for elderly people. She is survived by one daughter, Celestine Abbott of Grand Rapids; four sons, Hersel Lake of Ionia, Leo Lake of Kalamazoo, Morrison Lake of Mulliken, L.G. Lake of Saranac; five sisters, Gracie Carpenter, Viola Kimball, Beulah Bradeen, Diana Beymer, and Joy McBride; one brother, LaVern Main; 30 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ammie McKendry Callen; three sons, Orson, Gaylord and George Lake; one great-granddaughter; four brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia, the Rev. David Woodall of the Open Bible Church in Grand Rapids officiating. Burial will be in Orleans Cemetery.
