All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Patricia Currigan currigan1932@comcast.net March 6, 2022, 6:41 pm Lake Odessa Wave-Thursday October 30, 1952 CARLTON CENTER MAN KILLED IN KOREA Mr and Mrs Clayton Valentine of Carlton Center, have received word that their son Lieut.James N.Valentine 34, was killed in an aircraft accident in Korea, October 21, just 12 days after he landed at Pusan. A graduate of Woodland high school class of 1936, h served with the Air Force during the second World War for four and one half years. He was awarded the air medal with two bronze oak leaf clusters for his service as a navigator and bombardier in the South Pacific. Following his discharge from service in 1947, he enlisted with the reserves and was recalled to active duty last March. After graduation from high school he was employed by the Hastings Manufacturing Co. and remained there until drafted in April 1941. He returned to the same company after returning from service and remained with the firm for three year as salesman before taking a position with the Clark Equipment Co. in Battle Creek, which position he kept until called into service. Born in Carlton twp., Barry County March 2, 1918, the son of Clayton and Marie Valentine, who resided near Lawhead Lake southwest of town before moving to their present home. Surviving besides the parents are two brothers Cletus of Hastings and Burl of Washington, D.C. and three sisters Mrs.Bud (Margrete) Flynn of Kalamazoo, Mrs William (Mayoma) Dawson of Lowell and Shirley at home.
