Car Crash Kills Local Woman Sun.

A local woman received fatal injuries and four other people were injured, two 
seriously, when two cars collided on seven-mile road near the northeast village 
limits about 6 p.m. Sunday.

Mrs.Mabel Valentine, 58, died a few minute after the car she was riding in, 
driven by her son-in-law Leland George, 27, of Fowlerville, crashed into another 
car which according to witnesses, made a sudden left hand turn at the east 
entrance to the Fairgrounds. Coroner Dale Kauffman said death was caused by a 
broken neck. Mr.George received a broken nose. Also riding in the George car was 
Mrs.Valentine's grand daughter Jean Marie Buche, year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs 
Horace Buche northeast of town. The little girl received severe bruises and was 
take to Pennock hospital where she remained overnight for observation.

Lewis Sage, 75, a retired farmer and driver of the northbound car making the 
turn, received serious injuries as did his wife Iva. Both are in critical 
condition at Pennock hospital where they were taken by ambulance immediately 
following the accident. Both cars were badly damaged.

Funeral services for Mrs. Valentine were held at the Pickens Chapel Wednesday 
afternoon with Rev. Roy Houghton officiating and burial was at Lakeside.

Mrs.Valentine had been caring for her invalid mother Mrs.Mary Leak for the past 
two years. Mr Valentine died 22 yers ago and a son Burton passed away nearly two 
years ago. Surviving besides her mother are two daughters, Mrs.Mary George of 
Fowlerville, Mrs.Margaret Buche of Lake Odessa, three sons, Bernard and Balfour 
of Saginaw and Buford of Lake Odessa, three grand children, two sisters, 
Mrs.Floren Olds of Hesperia and Mrs.Ben Hazzard of Lake Odessa, a brother Vern 
Sexton of Lansing and several nieces and nephews.
