June. 1, 1888 George W. VanAllen, another well-known personage in this city, died on Wednesday morning. He had been in feeble health for some time previous to his fatal illness, but being a man possessed of great tenacity of life, it was even at the date of his recent sickness hoped and thought that he would add to the already acquired 77 years of life. Mr. VanAllen was a New Yorker by birth, and his business methods up to the day of his death could be traced the thrift and sagacious frugality peculiar to his early training. He came to this city something more than twenty years ago and has resided here continually ever since. His aged wife survives him and he leaves behind him also one daughter, Mrs. L. B. Townsend, and one son, Herman VanAllen. His remains will be placed in their final resting place on Saturday morning, funeral services to begin at ten o’clock, at the residence of his daughter named above.
