She was born August 27, 1928 in Portland, the daughter of Milo and Ruby Pruden Daggett. She married Charles Van Alstine on July 14, 1951 in Lansing. Jean was a longtime resident of the Stanton area. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 147 in Stanton. She moved to Arcadia after her retirement from Gibson’s in Greenville. Jean enjoyed spending her winters in Foley, Ala., where she was also a member of the local Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 142. She was preceded in death by her husband; and parents. She is survived by three daughters, Betty and Ron Hadley of Wyoming, Mich., Patricia and Ronald Pence, Joyce and Rene Perez, all of Six Lakes; son, Gordon and Barb Howe of Stanton; sister, Doris Holland of Barryton; two brothers, Alger and Barb Daggett of Barryton, Donald and Edie Daggett of Lansing; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Simpson Family Funeral Home, Stanton. In accordance with Jean’s wishes, cremation has already taken place. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial considerations to Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 147 of Stanton.
