(Van) VanBuren, 58, of Struble Road, rural Muir, was pronounced dead on arrival at Orange Vista Hospital, Orlando, Fla. following a heart attack. He was vacationing with his family when he was stricken. Born in Danby Township March 17, 1924. He was the son of Clifton and Etta Fineout VanBuren. He attended Portland schools. He was married Oct 7, 1944 to Myrtle Donnelly, in Ionia, and they had made their home in the Ionia area most of their married life, moving to their present residence about 10 years ago. He served in Italy with the US Army during World War II. After discharge, he was employed by the Ionia Creamery and later by Olds Drop Forge in Lansing. For the past 20 years he has been employed in the construction industry as operating engineer for Standard Aggregates in St. Johns. He was a member of the Lyons United Methodist Church, the Carson City American Legion Post, and was a former member of the Ionia Fishing and Hunting Club. Surviving are his wife, Myrtle, two sons, Vernon C. of Ionia and Jack at home; three daughters, Mrs. Rudy (Claudia) Charles of Lyons; Mrs. Gene (Michelle) Droste of Westphalia and Mrs. Larry (Linda) Rice of Portland; 12 grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Ronald of Lyons and Kenneth of Morrison, Tenn., and two sisters, Mrs. Roger (Virginia) Davids of Mulliken and Mrs. Richard (Ethelyn) Putney of Grand Ledge; a brother, Lawrence, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 pm from the Lyons United Methodist Church, the Rev. Byron Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Danby Cemetery. The family will be at Leddick Funeral Home Monday from 7 to 9 pm and Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A memorial has been established, in the care of the funeral home.
