July 17, 1988 Excerpts from Grand Rapids Obituary FORMER IONIA JUDGE RONALD VANBUREN DIES. Died Sunday, July 25, 1988-age 65 at Grand Rapids, MI. Ronald had lost one leg & his sight was failing from diabetes, but he loved being a Judge & had stepped down from the Ionia District Court 10 years ago,& was now working in private practice. VanBuren, an Ionia County native, served in the South Pacific during World War II. He received a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 1948 & graduated from University of Michigan Law School in 1952. He served as Ionia County prosecuting attorney from 1957 to 1964, Justice of the Peace form 1965 t 1968, & was named the District Court judge in 1969. He served in District Court 64A until 1978. He came to Ionia Court from Detroit in 1972. Service will be 1:00p.m. Thursday at St.John's Lutheran Church. Survived by his wife, Lois & one son, Kenneth of Ionia, four daughters, Gail Wohischeid of Lyons, Karen Theobald of Lansing, Sue Davis of Orleans & Laurie Dyer of Lyons, one brother, Kenneth of Lyons & two sisters, Virginia Davids of Sunfield & Ethelyn Putney of Grand Ledge.
