        After a lengthy illness, Mrs. Lena B. Vance, 73, of 311 State street, 
died Saturday evening.  She was born November 1, 1884 in Bloomer township, 
Montcalm county, a daughter of Newton and Fanny Blackmer.  
        She was married December 21, 1910 to Edward E. Vance and he died in 
1956.  Mrs. Vance lived for a number of years in Pewamo where she and Mr. 
Vance owned and operated a farm implement store and later they moved to 
Lyons.  In 1915 they moved to Easton township and upon retiring from farm work 
moved to Ionia a few years ago.  She was a member of the State Road club.
        Surviving are a daughter Mrs. Stanley (Fanny) Jorgensen of route 
three, Ionia; a son, George N. Vance of Ionia; six grandchildren; a brother, 
Ezra Blackmer of Hubbardston and three sisters, Mrs. Blanche Heath of 
Palmetto, Fla., Mrs. Nellie Arntz of Sheridan and Mrs. Arthur Huyck of Carson 
City.
        Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Heath Goodwin, pastor of 
the First Methodist church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Stone-Kauffman funeral 
Home.  Interment will be in Balcom cemetery.
