Vance on Tuesday cast a gloom of sadness over the entire community. Heart failure was the cause of death, produced by the excitement and labor incident to the fire at W.C. Etson’s, notice of which appears elsewhere. The Vance family is one of the oldest and best known in the county. Deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Vance, both of whom are living, the father being 86 years old. George was born in Lyons township September 9, 1848, and his entire life was spent here. On March 1, 1874, he was married to Emma Youngs, who died June 10, 1891. In September, 1892, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Calista Brown, nee Mosher, the ceremony being performed in the village of Lyons by Rev. W.T. Woodhouse. Mr. Vance was a resident of Lyons village for several years, being engaged in the dray and meat market business. From here he moved to his present farm, east of the village. He was a member of Lyons Tent K.O.T.M.M. His was a kind and generous heart, and while he did not make a display of it, his acts of charity were many and beneath a rough and rugged exterior beat a warm heart, which always responded to the needs of his fellowmen. He is survived by his wife, four children, Kelsey Vance of Oregon, Eugene Vance of Lyons, Mrs. Marie Seavy of Russell, Mass. and Edward Vance of Lyons, and two sisters, Mrs. Fred Dunn, of Lyons township, and Mrs. John Blakeslee of Carson City, besides his aged parents, all of whom have the tenderest sympathy of a host of friends. The funeral will be held at the home Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, fast time.
