William Vance was born in Yates County, N.Y. October 19, 1813, and removed to Pewamo in May 1837. He was married to Miss Catherine Dolmey January, 1871, and to them were born three sons, John, Arthur and William, the latter having died some four years ago. Two brothers, Mr. Madison and Chauncey Vance, with two sisters Mrs. Millis and Mrs. McVeigh, are still living, who unite with the widow and Arthur to mourn the loss of a beloved husband, father and brother, it being probable the son John is dead, not having been heard from in several years. Mr. Vance removed from his farm to the village of Pewamo some 12 years ago, and lived in the same house until his death, which occurred January 6, 1908, in the 95th year of his age, having lived in this vicinity for 71 years. Funeral was conducted in the home by Pastor W. R. Waters of the Baptist Church. Sermon founded on 1 Samuel 2: 6. Interment in the family burying ground in East Plains cemetery January 9, 1908.
