Vance, 48, of 11219 Jessup road, route 1, died Saturday in Grand Rapids. He was born in St. Johns April 20, 1930, the son of Corey and Elsie Thompson Vance. Mr. Vance attended Pewamo schools and lived all his life in the North Plains area. He married the former Mardell Atherton in Louisville, Kentucky, June 7, 1952. Mr. Vance was a member of the Pewamo United Methodist church and the Hubbardston post, 182, American Legion. He was employed as a food service supervisor at Michigan Training Unit and the Ionia State Hospital. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Dana Baker of Stanton and Kimberly and Gina at home; his father, Corey Vance of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; two brothers Jed Vance of Hubbardston and Calvin Vance of Pewamo and one grandson. Services are Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Osgood funeral home in St. Johns with Rev. Dr. Lloyd Walker officiating. A memorial fund is established for the Pewamo United Methodist church memorial fund.
