Vance, 70, well known Ionia county resident, died Tuesday morning at Blodgett Memorial hospital, Grand Rapids, where he had been a patient for the past ten days. He was born January 16, 1886 in Orleans township, the son of George E. and Emma Vance. For a number of years, he lived on a farm in Lyons and December 21, 1911, was married to Lena Blackmer at Carson City. They then moved to Pewamo, where he operated an implement business. Upon selling the business, the Vances moved to a farm in Easton township where he operated a fruit farm. He was one of the first operators of a roadside fruit and meat market. In 1947 he sold the farm to his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Jorgensen and retired and moved to Ionia where he had lived for the past 15 years, going to Florida for the winters. He was a life member of Lyons lodge No. 37, F&AM. Surviving are his wife, Lena; one son, George N. Vance of Ionia; one daughter, Mrs. Fannie Jorgensen of Easton township; six grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Marie Sevey of Westfield, Mass. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon, May 31 at 2:30 at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home. The Rev. Heath Goodwin will officiate. Interment will be in Balcom cemetery. Subsequent Publication: Friday, June 1, 1956 Funeral services for Edward E. Vance of Ionia, who died Tuesday morning, May 29, were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home with the Rev. Heath Goodwin officiating. Bearers were Keith Huyck of Carson City; Lyman Bonner of Lyons; Paul Blackmer of Hubbardston; Roy Miller of Muir; Robert Arntz and Leo Martin, both of Vickeryville. Interment was in Balcom cemetery. Attending from out of town were Corey Vance and Oscar Vance of Pewamo; Mr. and Mrs. Keith Huyck and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Huyck of Carson City; Mrs. Millie Arntz, Robert Arntz and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Martin, all of Vickeryville. Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Blackmer and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Blackmer of Hubbardston; Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Jorgensen and Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Jorgensen of Greenville; Lyman Bonner of Lyons; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Miller of Muir; Mr. and Mrs. Durwood Stout of Stanwood; Mr. and Mrs. John F. Eightner and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mitchell of Big Rapids and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Johnson of Lansing. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Laycock of Holt and Day Holcomb and Mr. and Mrs. John Leland of Orleans.
