Vance, aged 21 years. Deeply we sympathize with husband and parents in their great loss although ‘tis her eternal gain. Scarcely more than a bride, life’s duties and pleasures laid so early aside! The reasons why seem inscrutable to those she has left behind. A loving wife, an exemplary daughter taken from those who held her dear. Angel hands have led her over the silver stream called death, dark only to those loth to sever their earthly ties, or fearful to meet the shadows of a sinful life. In Mary’s last hours she gave the brightest evidence that death had no fears for her, and as her feet touched the cold wave, she called husband and parents around her couch and gave them her last earthly farewell. She also told them of joys indescribable that opened on her vision, luring her to the other shore. Safe in the assurance of an eternal life beyond the separating veil of death, she fell asleep to awake in the land of never fading sunshine. A Friend.
