Edward was born Dec. 25, 1941, to parents George N. and Caroline Gove Vance in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. Edward was a life-long resident of Ionia. He attended Ionia Public Schools, graduating in 1959. He played numerous sports including football during his senior, resulting in an undefeated season. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Michigan, Western University, and Michigan State University, earning a business degree in 1963. He then joined his father in the insurance and real estate business at The Vance Agency. After selling the business, Edward became a full-time residential real estate appraiser, entrepreneur and real estate broker, until retiring at age 70. Edward was a passionate golfer, active swimmer and ruthless card and game player, but his biggest joy in life was spending time with family and friends, and his dog, Ellie Mae. He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and most of all husband. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Edward served on a number of local organizations including the Ionia City Zoning Board, Ionia Industrial Fund Board and the Ionia County Republican Executive Committee. He was also a member of the Ionia Country Club, Ionia Lions Club, Knights Templar and Masonic Temple. Edward was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joanne Vance Kinzie. Surviving are his loving wife Sharon of 38 years; daughter, Julie (John) Sellin of Los Banos, California; son, Edward Jr. (Carmen) of Saranac, Michigan; daughter, Lisa (John) Stedman of Stanton, Michigan; grandchildren, Courtney, Katie, Ryan, Stephanie, Mallory, Max, Zachary, Connor and Riley; sister Valerie K. Vance of Sarasota, Florida; brother-in-law Larry Kinzie of New Braunfels, Texas; stepmother Marcella Vance of Sebring, Florida, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2015, 1 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Mrs. Kathryn Mace officiating. Visitation will begin two hours prior to service. Interment immediately following at Balcom Cemetery. A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow at Shadow Ridge Golf Club located at 1244 Kelsey Hwy. in Ionia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center, Ionia County Animal Shelter, or Ionia Area Hospice.
