Vance, 74, of rural Pewamo died Friday at Clinton Memorial hospital in St. Johns where she had been a patient the past week. Born in Ithaca she was the daughter of Perry and Stella Black and lived most of her life in the rural Pewamo area. She was a graduate of Central Michigan university, Mt. Pleasant. She was married to Corey Vance in Ithaca April 23, 1921. She was a member of Pewamo United Methodist church, Order of Eastern Star of Pewamo, Delta Cappa Gamma sorority, Michigan Educational association and National Educational association. She retired from the teaching profession in 1968 after 35 years as a teacher. Among schools she taught are Carson City, Hubbardston, Palo, Maple Rapids, St. Johns and Pewamo-Westphalia. Surviving are her husband, Corey; three sons, Jed of Hubbardston, Calvin of Pewamo and Dane of Muir; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, Earl Thompson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and sister, Mrs. Gertrude Bump of Lansing; Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Osgood funeral home at St. Johns. Rev. Lloyd Walker will officiate and interment will be at East Plains cemetery.
