Sentinel-Std. - Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1976

PEWAMO- Mrs. Edith May Vance, 87, of rural Pewamo, died late Tuesday evening at 
the Ionia Memorial hospital where she had been a patient there two weeks.

Born at Matherton July 14, 1888, she was the daughter of James and Phylinda 
Teachworth Wood. She attended school at Matherton and graduated from the 
Hubbardston high school. 

She received her teacher's degree from the State Teachers college at Mt. 
Pleasant and taught at the Bower school in Clinton county.

June 12, 1912, she was married in Matherton to Oscar Vance and they made their 
home in the Pewamo area all their married lives and celebrated their golden 
wedding anniversary in 1962.

After the death of her husband in December of 1965 she continued to live in the 
rural Pewamo area. She had taught school 34 years before retiring in 1949.

She was a longtime member of the Matherton United Brethren church, life member 
of the Evergreen chapter of Order of Eastern Star of Lyons. 

among her survivors are a son, Phillip of Pewamo, daughter, Mrs. Clarissa 
Loomis of Pewamo; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 1 pm at the Leddick funeral home. Rev. Lloyd 
Walker of the LeValley United Methodist church will officiate and interment 
will be at East Plains cemetery, Pewamo.

Family members will be at the funeral home Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 pm 
and 7 to 9 pm.

a memorial has been established for the Evergreen chapter, Order of Eastern 
Star of Lyons.
