Excerpts from Ionia Obituary

Mardell A.Vance-Leos

Died January 26, 2026-age 93 off Pewamo.
Born June 5, 1932  in LaRue County,Kentucky, daughter of Clyde Russell & Addie 
Mae (Milby) Atherton.
Mardell married Dane Roderick Vance June 7, 1952 , together they raised three 
daughters before he passed away June 24, 1978.
She later married Gilberto Leos February 14, 1998. He preceded her in death on 
June 8, 2021.
Mardell worked as an Executive Secretary for multiple companies starting with 
Mitchell-Bentley through Gencorp Automotive.
In her younger years she enjoyed managing a couple of women's softball teams, 
Corcorans & Sadies Ladies.
Mardell loved shopping & following her grandchildren's sports through their 
school years.
She was a group leader for Pewamo Methodist Church. Later she became a member of 
Shiloh Community Church.
Survived by her three daughters, Dana (Michael) Willard of Sheridan,Kimberly 
(Jeffrey) Miller of Fenwick, & Gina (Patrick) McPherson of Ionia.
Grandchildren; Derrick (Cari) Baker, Karly (Ryan) Grant, Dane(Elizabeth) Miller, 
Ashley (B.J.) Oaks & Paige (Josh) Burch. Great-grandchildren;Chase Baker, Tyler 
Baker, Chloe Grant,Kenzie Grant, Sawyer Grant, Emma Bauman, Blake Miller, 
Addison Miller, Tyler Burch, Avery Oaks, Harper Oaks, Berklee Oaks, niece 
Sabrena (Kevin) McKiernan of Kentucky, & many relatives & friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, brother Delma Atherton, sister-in-law Vernie 
Atherton & nephew, Perry Atherton.
Celebration of Life will be held at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia, Mich. on 
Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 11:00 am with grandson, Pastor Ryan Grant 
officiating.
Interment will take place in the spring at East Plains Cemetery.
