A. Van Decar Dies In California Word was received here Monday of the death of A. A. VanDecar of Long Beach, Calif. on Feb. 6. The body is scheduled to reach here Saturday evening, and the funeral will be held at the Methodist church here Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Mr. VanDecar went to California last fall and has been in poor health much of the time since. Mr. VanDecar is an old resident of this vicinity and well known by many neighbors and friends. He leaves two sons, Lewis of Lake Odessa and Will of California. ---- Odessa Citizen Died in California Arthur A. Vandecar lived Christian Life, Funeral at M.E. Church. One of the splendid citizens of Odessa township heard the call of the Master while at the home of his son William at Long Beach, Calif. Feb. 6. Mr. Vandecar was a splendid citizen always kind and courteous and always attended strictly to his own affairs. A few days before he left for California he was in this office to change his paper from Lake Odessa to Long Beach and to all appearances seemed in good health. Alas, so few know the day nor suspect the hour of their departure. The funeral was held on Monday at the Methodist Church, Rev. F. H. Cramer preaching and a quartette consisting of Messrs Wm. Gilson, Geo. Kart, Merlin Morgan and Leon Gilson sang. Burial was at Lake Side. The following obituary was read at his funeral. Arthur Vandecar was born in Canada, July 3, 1855 and came to Michigan near Lake Odessa and living here nearly all his life except a few months in the west. He gave his heart to Jesus nearly thirty years ago while Rev. Nease was minister and has been a faithful follower ever since. He died February 6, 1925 at the home of his son William A. Vandecar, aged sixty-nine years, seven months and five days. Had he lived until July 3, 1925 he would have been seventy years of age. He was first married to Alice Garman July 4, 1880, who passed away October 3, 1917. Ten weeks ago today he was married to Mrs. Arwilda Hyde who has been with him constantly until death. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife and two sons, Wm. A Vandecar of Long Beach, Calif. and Lewis of Lake Odessa, also ten grandchildren and two brothers, George Vandecar of Berlin and Edwin of Lake Odessa and a host of other relatives and friends.
