He left here for Lansing about 1940 and several years later started in the bicycle business. His shop was located at 307 E.Shiawassee St., under the name of Van's Bike Shop. During World War II he also held a defense job at the Reo plant. According to a report from the Delta township Fire Department, the accident happened when Mr Vandecar was grading the lawn at his new home. His tractor became mired, and Dennis, a son, hooked another tractor to it, causing it to overturn. Mr. Vandecar received head injuries. Surviving are his wife Marian, three sons, Dennis and Gordon, who have bicycle shops of their own, and Douglas who worked with his father; four grandchildren; a sister Mrs Thelma Vandecar of Lake Odessa and three brothers, Vaughn of East Lansing, Clayton and Clare of Lansing. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 at the Jessen Funeral Home with burial in Lakeside cemetery, Lake Odessa.
