April 28, 1971 Services Held for Local Woman Mrs. Petronella VandeKemp, 57, rural Lake Odessa, passed away Saturday afternoon a few hours after admittance to Osteopathic Hospital, Grand Rapids. She was born in Ede township in the Netherlands, September 11, 1913, daughter of Gerrit and Griefje (Boon) vanPeursem. She married Hendirk VandeKemp of Veorthuizen, Netherlands on March 20, 1936 and came to the Portland area before moving to Lake Odessa on M-66 in 1961. Mrs. VandeKemp was a member of the Christian Reformed church of Portland and of the Golden Circle of the church. She was employed four years by the Amway Company at Ada before retiring about four years ago. Surviving are her husband: seven daughters, Mrs. Robert (Clare) VandenBerg of Wyoming, Grace and Nellie VandeKemp of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Wayne (Betty) Jensen of Lansing, Hendrika VandeKemp of Holland, Toni of Denver, Colo., and Joyce at home: three sons, Rick of Mt. Pleasant, Gerrit of Erie, Pa. and Peter at home; seven grandchildren and two brothers, Nick and Jan van Peursem of the Netherlands. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 1:30 at the Christian Reformed Church at Portland. Rev. Harmon Kuizema officiated with burial in Chapel Hill cemetery, Grand Rapids. Mrs. VandeKemp reposed at Pickens Chapel in Lake Odessa until Tuesday afternoon.
