Chuck (or Charlie) was born on Sept. 25, 1940 in Litchfield, Mich. to Philip and Arlyce VanDenburg, both deceased.He was a man of great intensity whose greatest passions in life were spending time with is family and friends, serving others, wine, cooking and Spartan sports. Chuck was known for his passion for anything French, including sharing his travel experiences. Chuck graduated from Litchfield High School and Michigan State University. He taught at Ionia Public Schools for 29 years, during which he was a FFA advisor.Church was active in many church and community organizations; the Ionia Free Fair department head for 35 years and he was on the board for Habitat for Humanity, the Jaycees and the Boy Scouts. He was an active member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, by serving in many capacities as lay distributor, administering community to shut ins, SSPP Parish council and school board, plus the Ionia Knights of Columbus. Over the years Chuck played an active role with the Michigan One Credit Union. Since 1971, he has served the Credit Union on several committees and chairman of the board.He as a hardworking man, always willing to help anyone who needed an extra hand, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sally; son Steve (Marcy); daughters, Diane (Tom) VanAntwerp and Kristi (±Greg) Fellows; grandchildren, Nick(10) Ashley (7), Kai (12), Kyra (9) Riley (9) and Jordan (7); siblings, William (Jan) Gretchen (Ernie), Carolyn (Kerry) and many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev.Melvin Fox, Pastor at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2008 at SS.Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ionia with Rite of Committal following at Mt.Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Ionia. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m Thursday. A ±Scripture Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday.In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SS.Peter & Paul Catholic School in memory of Charles Kingsley VanDenburg.
