April 7, 1949 Fred Vanderburg dies-- Buried Here By Comrades Monday Fred Vanderburg, 57, a former well known resident of this village, died following a heart attack at Lansing Saturday morning. Employed as a guard at the capitol, he was stricken shortly before 4:00 a.m. A fire department inhalator squad revived him. At 4:45 he suffered another spell, which was fatal. Funeral Here Monday The body was removed to Gorsline-Runciman funeral home, and later brought to Bandfield's chapel held where funeral services were held Monday afternoon. Burial was in Portland cemetery, and services were in charge of Dale E. Hyland post, American Legion, of which deceased was a member. Rev. Wm. Simpson officiated. Burial in Portland. Born in Winnipeg. Mr. Vanderburg was born in Winnipeg, Canada, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Vanderburg. He came here with the family when a small boy and lived here most of his lifetime. For some years he was employed as a soap maker by the Wolverine Soap Co., and later similarly employed at the The Michigan reformatory plant in Ionia. From that position he transferred to the job at the capital building. He was not married and is survived by one brother, William Vanderburg, of Portland.
